BLIP
At least at the time of writing MSN has probably the fastest content refresh cycles (the fastest indexing of new domains and URLs, the fastest update on changes). Once again it could simply be se because it is yet lacking the volume and time-depth but on the other hand it might be their chosen tactic - to save on complex calculations with the aim to deliver the freshest results. If this is so one must admit that they are aiming at Web 2.0 straight ahead. To be able to process quickly changing dynamic content and deliver results ahead of the pack could be their USP in this game.

Everyone working in SEO knows this: you are in a shady business all the time. White is gray, gray is black and black is white. All blurred and uncertain. You use some tricks because you know they work and abandon others if they don’t. Quite rarely you do actually know what produced which result as there is simply no time to set up a clean experiment and you can not afford using your techniques in a sequence to be able to properly analyse their results, you have to use them in a pack.
It seems we are all in need of systematic knowledge base and we all have none. Even though an attempt to build one may seem fruitless ou can’t stop asiring to this and you simply can not stop thinking.
I’ve noticed that from time to time on my usually blank radar screen appear some blips of understanding. These are sudden flashes of obviousness that at times could become rather revealing. Let me explain what I mean by that: Read more…

For a week or so I’ve been busy doing some other stuff and nearly forgot about Linkie Winkie. Today checked the site again and as I predicted it started to show its teeth - two winderful spikes of activity in a form of two large fangs suggest that there might be slightly more to it than just natural flow of traffic. It looks like it takes some holidays (days off rather) too.
When I’ll be back from holidays in about ten days I certainly will run my Log Analyzer software to see exactly where it comes from ;-).

Linkie Winkie is indeed something exciting - looking at how this social experiment is structured one can learn a lot not only about the ways robots crawl web sites (I recently got acquainted with a good few of previously unfamiliar ones
), but also how fast the episiteic (or epilinkic) spreads, which sites are likely to be affected and how SEs react to this spread.
I wholeheartedly admire the ability to pull data almost in real-time, make selection based on a keyword/codeword/signature and adjust the system accordingly. Well done!
The machine seems to be here, the only question is - how it is going to be used?
Concerning the timing - I hope I’m getting it right this time. Last time I was a day or so late for the party.

It’s been a buzz for quite some time now - to set up a SEO contest and rip the benefits. All possible varieties tend to spring up from moderately decent elursrebmem to shamelessly self-promoting CarCasher.
Sometimes I wonder - what’s the point of it all as it is hard to understand what exactly might bring seemingly sane individuals to participate in so obviously vain undertaking?
On the surface it seems to be just a simple willywagging excersise but is there more to it?
Of course if you really win you start building yourself a SEO reputation or might get accepted into the esoteric circle of SEO gurus. But there is only just one winner - the owner of the conters. Apart from obvious things like:
he/she or they get also something much more interesting - namely a new search term, search phrase or even a whole search cloud previously nonexistent.
Let’s see how the thing works taking elursrebmem as an example. Surely no one searched for this term prior to the date of the contest announcement. This word did not exsits and hence was not indexed by any SE. As soon as a contest begins it generates an explosive amount of searches for this word both naturally (Let’s check how we are doing on Google for the contest. type) and kind of unnaturally
to use a softer expression.
Consequently, unless the search is manually banned or blacklisted by Search Engines (a practice commonly referred to as euristics by various GoogleGuys) it should be treated “as normal” by SE algos. In effect it would mean that suddenly a totally new object appeared somewhere in this world and searchers became extremely interested in it. In othe words buzz that begins to spread. Now who was the first to publish the info on this exiting new word and to which site all of the links related to the word point? I hope your guess is right. Now, what this stie gets? The status of AUTHORITY on the subject and this seems to be priceless :-).
Note, however, a serious weak point of this linking strategy - it creates a simple many-to-one (or star) structure that would obviously look a bit suspicious to SE. To look more natural all the participating sites have to be interlinked in some way, directly or indirectly. Fortunately there is a simple way to overcome this obstacle which I suggest all future SEO contest organiser should use: rules of a contest should state that to qualify a site should link to at least one other (or better more) of participating sites. A social experiment on a grander scale! But wait, doesn’t it remind you of something? Ponzi schemes? MLM marketing?
Is this however a street with only one way traffic? Well, not exactly. When you see a SEO Contest going on you might jump on that train too. Using a tail catching tactic you might put a word of that contest or even a link to contest rules somwhere on your website pretending you are a part of the contest too. If you do it early enough you might still be able to catch the wawe of a newly formed tsunami of searches for that search term and if you are lucky to ride this wawe for a long time.
Anyway, the whole idea of becoming a SEO Contest organiser sounds so good that I am beginning to think of setting up my own LZZR SEO Contest
(guess what the word for that contest would be)?

Dax Herrera had written a great Adsense Injection Wordpress plugin that injects Google ads in Wordpress.
The only problem that it tends to break the code if a post does not begin with a <p> tag.
This prompted me to start modding the plugin and I got a bit carried away and after about four hours added some more stuff to it. So here we go:
Added
- $marker into replacement procedure instead of <p> so it won’t be breaking the whole thing if a post starts with something other than <p>
- 336×280 Large Rectangle format
- Alternative Colour and Alt URL options (if no URL - goes for color, if no color - goes FFFFFF)
- text, text_image, image, options
- CSS formatting - top bottom inner outer
- ads not shown in preview
Changed
- increased the number of ads from 3 to 4 (probably pointless)
- ad channel outputs only when channel is set
- re-ordered formats (as in Google) plus added format names
- minor cosmetic HTML changes

In light of recent suggestions and speculations concerning the provenance and real intentions behind the LZZR domain name I feel nesessary to clarify the issue. This domain was not registered for the purpose of syber-squatting based on a leaked info from Motorola concerning the forthcoming Motorola LZZR release. To the best of my knowledge there is no such thing as Motorola LZZR and it is not expected.
Speaking recently to someone who claimed to be a representative of the company I managed to extract the following: there are no official plans to release Motorola LZZR, nor there are similar plans concerning Motorola VZZR or Motorola UZZR models. The marketing practice of inventing silly and embarrasing names that started with Motorola RAZR (especially Pink edition) and continued with Motorola PEBBL, Motorola ROKR and Motorola SLVR (Motorola SLVR Red in particular) will however continue. Although no specific names had been disclosed, I’ve got an impression that in the nearest future we should expect Motorola HRD SFT aimed at aged male and young female user segments as well as Motorola TP BTTM (I can only guess which user group they were having in mind). The proposed hit for the teenager audience is allegedly Motorola WNKR model.
So these are all just that - rumours and speculations that I vigorously deny.
